Download and Installation FAQ
If you receive an error message during a download, or are unable to install a downloaded file, it is likely that the download did not complete, or was corrupted. Use the following information to identify and resolve the problem.
Demand for downloads can be high the first week after a product release. You may be able to download faster if you avoid peak download hours (9:00 am to 6:00 pm EST).
Downloads
How many AMAP files can I download?
Licensed users of AWhere Professional and Express have access to all our AMAP files under Data Sets downloads.
Unlicensed users can download a maximum of 3 AMAP files from each category listed under Data Sets to use with their trial software.
I am having difficulty downloading the files
There are a number of reasons why you might see the following types of behaviors during the download process:
- You receive an error message
- The web browser hangs
- You receive an error message when you try to unzip or open the downloaded file
Redownloading may solve the problem, but check the following issues and solutions to see if they may apply:
- The temporary internet file cache is too small to contain the file as it downloads.
Enlarge the temporary internet file cache: In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Temporary Internet Files > Settings, and increase the Amount Of Disk Space To Use setting to 150 MB. (The default is 50 MB.)
- You are using a download manager or download accelerator.
Download without the assistance of the manager or accelerator.
- The browser you are using cannot handle such a large download file.
Try downloading using another browser (for example Firefox instead of Internet Explorer).
- There is not space available on your drive to expand the installer into the default TEMP directory.
Clear your default TEMP directory and free up space on your hard drive.
- You are selecting Open rather than Save when asked if you would like to open the file or save to your computer.
Select the option to Save the file, then open the file when it has downloaded to your hard drive.
- Your computer may not have the system requirements needed to install.
You may need to upgrade your system or download the trial on another machine.
- Organization/Company is blocking the download.
If you are downloading from within your organization's network, it is possible that your organization has set up security measures to prevent downloads from sources outside of the organization's internal network.
- Security software of your machine is blocking the download.
Pop-up blockers and firewalls might prevent your browser from initiating the download. Check the settings in your browser or security software to ensure they are not blocking the downloads.
- Slow Internet connection.
Most of the files available for download are over 50 MB (Megabytes) in size. Dial-up connections may experience a connection drop during the time it takes to download a large file.
Installation
Installing software
- Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements to run the software before installing it.
- When installing on Windows 2000 or Windows NT, you must be logged on as a Power User or Administrator.
- It is recommended to install the software in the default directory (C:\) on your computer.
- Prior to installation, it is recommended to close all other programs running on your computer.
- If you have purchased a license, enter the license key correctly; make sure that you type a zero "0" or the letter "O" where appropriate.
- If you have an older version of the software installed on your computer, uninstall it before installing the newer version.
Installing training modules
The training modules are self-extracting executables.
For AWhere Professional and AWhere Express, they are set to self-extract the files at the following location:
C:\Program Files\AWhere\AWhere SIS 3.8\Training\[training module name]
This is the default installation path for AWhere Professional and AWhere Express. If you originally allowed AWhere Professional or AWhere Express to be installed at their default location, then you should simply allow these .exe files to extract their contents to their pre-set, default location.
If, however, you installed AWhere Professional or AWhere Express to a location other than to the default location shown above, please be sure to edit the pre-set, default extract-to location for these .exe files so that their contents are extracted to their respective sub-folder within the "Training" folder relative to where-ever AWhere Professional or AWhere Express is installed on your computer.
Also, be sure not to edit, move, or delete any of the folders or files that were originally installed in the AWhere Professional or AWhere Express program directory.
