An invaluable upgrade to aWhere’s Location Intelligence Platform occurred this week with the launch of a new global weather resource. Colorado State University’s satellite derived precipitation data, which uses microwave satellite sensors to provide unprecedented access to localized, global precipitation data, is now available through the aWhere Platform.
The partnership between aWhere, Inc., a Software as a Service (SAAS) company, and Colorado State University’s Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), demystifies these data, making it easy to access practical information to inform decision making in such vital areas such as global food security, vector born disease control, climate-smart agriculture, and many other global sustainability and development challenges.
CSU’s precipitation data, which has better spatial and temporal resolution than existing sources, is now a significant part of the aWhere Platform, which currently presents weather variables on temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, and growing degree days. The Platform offers intuitive, interactive access to historical, daily-observed, and forecasted hyper-localized weather data.
A free version of the platform -- available in Eastern, Western, and Southern Africa; South Asia; Central America; and Mexico -- allows users to interact with gridded data through rich maps, graphs, and table tools, all accessed via the internet.
