aWhere Announces Partnership with Indonesian Social Enterprise, Vasham
Mar 30, 2015
Broomfield, CO – A new agreement between aWhere Inc. and Vasham, will provide field-level weather and agronomic data into the hands of smallholder farmers throughout Indonesia.
Vasham will leverage Weather aWhere solutions to send daily agronomic weather to smallholder Indonesian corn growers who experience a critical gap in the distribution of information and technology. Many of these farmers use traditional farming practices that are at risk amidst increasing weather variability. Initially, Vasham will provide this data as text messages sent directly to corn growers at a subsidized cost, and will eventually move to other crops, such as rice and soybeans.
Irvan Kolonas, President and Founder of Vasham, said, “Indonesia has a major productivity issue in its agriculture industry. Most of our farmers lack the new technical methods and technologies of planting their crops, most still use outdated methods. Our partnership with aWhere will have a tremendous impact for our farmers, through the use of data analytics we will be able to precisely improve smallholder farmers’ productivity. This platform will enable farmers to get accurate scripts of inputs, and most importantly real time recommendations and solutions that will help them to reach their maximum yield potential.”
This partnership is an exciting opportunity for aWhere to continue delivering agricultural intelligence to small holder farmers around the globe who do not typically have access to high resolution daily and historical weather data specific to their fields. The agreement will enable these farmers to make actionable decisions in real time, mitigating pest and disease risks throughout the growing season.
“Small holder farmers are key to feeding our growing population amidst increasing global weather variability. The importance of field-level insight for these farmers is immediate, and we are excited to see our Weather aWhere solutions used to help them make more informed decisions,” said John Corbett Ph.D, aWhere CEO and Co-Founder.
