World Weather WatchER Series: Week of August 10th

On August 9, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its sixth Assessment Report – Climate Change 2021; The Physical Science Basis. You can access the full report at https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg1/ You can also access the Interactive Atlas (https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg1/#I…) to explore different climate model outputs. The models forecast what we have been observing for the Sahel of Africa being wetter than normal this year. We also report on the dryer and wetter than normal weather around the world leading to either wild fires and floods – our new reality associated with a warmer and more energetic atmosphere that can hold more moisture leading to extended dry periods punctuated by extreme rainfall events. Go to https://apps.awhere.com to explore the weather in your area to see how it has changed over the past 15 years. This coupled with the Interactive Atlas should offer you valuable insights on adaptation to climate change and the incentive to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions for a healthy planet and sustainable economies.
